Nothing leaves your phone unless you send it.

Last updated 1 October 2026.

Shell is an SSH client for iPhone, made by Nucleus. There is no account, and nothing you put into it leaves your phone, except a problem report you choose to send us.

  • No account and no sync, not even a Nucleus ID. Your hosts, snippets, history and settings stay on your phone, and passwords and private keys stay in the iOS keychain, on this device only.
  • Shell connects only to the servers you tell it to. It contains no analytics, ads, tracking or crash reporting.
  • A backup you export is encrypted with your passphrase and goes only where you save it, never to us.
  • The only thing Shell can send us is a problem report, written and sent by you. Nothing is attached to it without you seeing it first.
  • If Shell ever sends anything else off your phone, this page will say so before that update is released.
  • Shell is made by Nucleus, run by Jan Kocanda, Czech Republic. Questions: [email protected].

Problem reports

You can send a report from Settings → Report a problem, or by shaking the phone (which can be turned off). Nothing is sent until you tap Send.

A report contains the title and description you write, any screenshots you add, an email address if you give one, and the app version, device model, iOS version and language. Shell adds nothing else: no hosts, keys, passwords, history or terminal output.

Screenshots of a terminal can show host names, addresses, usernames or other details, so check them before you attach them.

Reports are stored on our server in the Czech Republic, where only the Nucleus team can read them, so we can fix the problem and reply to you. They are never emailed or passed on, and are deleted automatically after 6 months.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in fixing what you report and answering you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
